Feb 9, 2019
Well so far so good.
Only one minor hiccup along the way – after sitting for close to 6 hours
at Vancouver Airport I manage to leave my jacket behind in the waiting room. But as luck would have it, I had packed a second
lighter coat, something I never do, so I will be just fine. I contacted the airport lost an found and
they have my jacket, so I will pick it up on arrival home in 6 weeks time.
Our trip over to London was uneventful, the plane had about
180 empty seats, so everyone was able to stretch out a bit more and enjoy a bit
of a nap. On arrival at London Heathrow,
we transferred to a hotel in Crawley, near Gatwick where we were to fly out of
2 days later. We rested up and did a bit
of shopping, getting road maps, trying to set up a phone and mobile Wi-Fi. We got everything done, except the phone –
seems we are destined not to have one on holidays. We made 3 trips to the shop to try to get
things working but despite spending well over an hour working on it we never could
get the sim card to work in my phone - thankfully, the shop refunded our money for
the sim card.
Feb 8 saw us up bright and early at 5AM for a 9AM flight to
Malaga. We had our first experience
with one of the ultra low-cost airlines, nothing complimentary, packed plane, Bill
just about chocked when he found out that even coffee was not complementary at
2.50 Euros, about $3.75 CAD, for a small partially filled cup. Thankfully it was an under 3-hour
flight. Next came our vehicle pickup and
we were off to our accommodation, about 45 minutes away. We are very happy with our accommodation, it
is a one-bedroom apartment, with two bathrooms, one with just a shower and the other
with a large jetted tub. And, much to Bill’s
pleasure there is a bidet in one of the bathrooms. There is a full kitchen with a large fridge,
oven, stovetop, microwave and dishwasher. There is also a washer and dryer in the unit,
plus we believe, behind a locked door is another bedroom, that also could be
rented. Probably the best part is that
there are 2 balconies as well, one off the living room and one off the dinning
room, each set up with tables and chairs, and lots of little birds in the
surrounding pine trees to watch and visit with.
We are a short walk from the beach (which we have yet to explore) and
there are a couple of outdoor pools (a little too cold to use right now) and an
indoor pool. There is a small strip mall
with a couple of restaurants, drugstore, convenience shop, etc., plus a very
short distance away are a couple of super markets and lots more restaurants. The rest of our day was spent unpacking and just
becoming familiar with our surrounding.
An early night for both of us as jet lag still has not disappeared.
