Oh How the Rain does Fall on the Plain in Spain

Mar 6

Well, so much for plans to see more of Seville today.  We woke to rain, wind and thunder.  Buckets of rain coming down and limbs being torn off of trees winds.  We decided that our best laid plan was to abandon our plan.  We hit the road and hopefully we would come out of it sooner rather than later.  We were not so lucky.  The wind was pushing the car as we travelled, there was a lot of water on the road so we were concerned about hydroplaning and the rain got so heavy at times, we had to slow down and put on the hazard lights, hoping no one would be coming up on us too fast from the rear.

Initially we had planned to take a mountain route home, but abandoned that idea as the rain and wind
continued.  We took a more circuitous route heading towards Cadiz then down towards Gibraltar.  We never ran out of the rain and wind until we left Gibraltar and where headed along the Mediterranean route home.

This is a bit of the "mild" rain we drove thru for about 2 hours:  click on the link

Saw these birds in a field when the rain had stopped - I believe they are a white stork - the kind that bring newborn babies in folklore

Ultra modern windmill often seen in this area of Spain, from Gibraltar all along the Mediterranean to about Estepona, and of course cattle - plus the big black fellow on the hill

The Black Bull that has become synonymous as a symbol of Spain, was first actually used as an advertising promotion for a particular brandy produced by Osborne Distilleries in 1956. It is a 14 meter tall black silhouette that stands on hilltops and along the roadsides in much of Spain, especially the Andalusian region where Osborne is located.
